If you’re looking for a “cool” Brooklyn neighborhood perfect for afternoon strolls and people watching, Williamsburg is the place to be. Start on Bedford Avenue and meander through thought-provoking art galleries and unique boutiques.  No matter the season, check out the Williamsburg Waterfront Piers for a scenic look at Manhattan’s skyline.

If you made it to Waterfront Piers, you’re not far from Rough Trade Records on North 9th Street. This two floor independent music store has every CD or vinyl record you could want, from old classics to new favorites. Aside from the small fashion brands and avant-garde retailers, this bustling neighborhood has grown to include mainstream staples such as an Apple Store, J.Crew and Levi’s.

Dine

Breakfast, lunch, dinner or a mid-afternoon snack, Williamsburg never disappoints when it comes to good food. Let’s take for starters—more than 100 vendors to browse, all offer diverse and delicious cuisines from ramen burgers to the famous raindrop cake. Smorgasburg is seasonal, but this spring and summer stop by any Saturday for memorable cheap eats.

Year-round there are fantastic dining options too. For gourmet coffee and a pastry, consider Toby’s Estate on North 6th. For a heartier breakfast or lunch—stop in Sweet Chick on Bedford Avenue or Marlow & Sons on Broadway.  End the day with dinner at St. Anselm on Metropolitan Avenue, a popular spot known for their impressive beer selection.

In addition to visual arts and fashion, music is one of the largest forms of expression in Williamsburg. There’s no shortage of venues to check out an open mic or see your favorite band live. Rough Trade Records frequently hosts concerts so when you’re there to shop around, check out their artist schedule.
